As you know, I recently toured Italy for a few days. The history was incredible. The city I loved exploring the most was Rome. While my family members in the tour van were asking the typical questions on history etc. to our guide, I got to thinking... Is now a good time to ask about the hot-button issues about their government? Well, you guessed it, one of my first questions was about guns. According to our guide guns are illegal in Italy (his words, not mine). He told me that the only way you can get a gun there is if you are part of the armed forces, or if you apply for a special permit to own one. But you can only get a permit IF you can prove some reason why you absolutely need one. Oh, but here’s the catch: if you have ANY crazy relative (great uncle, cousin, sibling, etc.) that will disqualify you entirely from ever getting your application though, even if you have a good reason for needing one. I don’t know about you, but based on my crazy family, I would be “disqualified” to have a gun in a hot second. Bottom line: not many have guns there. Think about it… Millions of people, denied their God-given right to arm themselves because they live in a fundamentally socialist country. I’m relatively sure our guide was more than a little uncomfortable talking politics in the tour van. He won’t be forgetting that tourist day anytime soon. Have I ever mentioned that I freaking love my country? Despite our flaws, we still have guns. God bless America.
